While researching the history of bootmaking for my portrait of The Sandhills Boot Company, I dug through several incredible photo archives. Besides the photos of Roy Rogers we licensed from Getty, I found images at the Nebraska Library of Congress, and the Denver Public Library. The tintype above was culled from the Lawrence T. Jones III Texas Photographs digital collection at the DeGolyer Library. “The Jones collection is one of the most comprehensive and valuable Texas-related photography collections. It documents all aspects of Texas photography, including the various types practiced from its earliest introduction to the state: daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, stereographs and paper print photographs in various formats.” – Lawrence T.
