My pal Alan Licht edited extensive interviews with Will Oldham for the new book Will Oldham on Bonnie “Prince’” Billy. This book reads like one of those great conversations you have sitting on the front porch, sharing some whiskey with an old friend… Housing Works bookstore hosts a book release party Monday September 24th at 7pm.
The Wire magazine’s year end review named Michael Chapman’s experimental album The Resurrection And Revenge Of The Clayton Peacock on Ecstatic Peace! number six in the top albums of 2011. There’s also an interview with Michael and reviews of current releases. This past year has been a whirlwind for the Chapman’s, the loss of dear friend Jack Rose, two tours in the US with William Tyler and Smog respectively and the release the above mentioned lp plus the re-release of Michael’s seminal lp Fully Qualified Survivor. The Wire’s accolades are a wonderful conclusion to 2011.
C’mon down to Littlefield Tuesday November 8th at 8pm. You will hear folksy tunes from Trummers, mellow grooves from A>G>E and rockin’ jams by Coke Weed from Bar Harbor, ME. I’ll be spinning some folk rock goodness. Should be a real fine time.
We lost a great man today, Bert Jansch passed away after battling cancer. I am thankful to have seen him perform and have told him what his music meant to me. Rest well Bert.
You will hear the sounds of Help Yourself, Moby Grape, Tim Buckley, Michael Chapman, Mike Cooper, Mason Profit, Mike Nesmith and the First National Band, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, Karen Dalton, Little Feat, Roy Harper; the sounds of such labels as Harvest Records, Apostolic, Vanguard. You get the picture.
In honor of my dear friend Michael Chapman’s 70th birthday I am delighted to present my work-in-progress, short biopic Fully Qualified Survivor. It’s a piece I’ve been shooting on and off for years and I still have some wonderful interviews to add from Bridget St. John, NNCK Keith and the late, great Jack Rose… But here’s a little taste of Michael’s work if he’s not near and dear to you already.
Big hugs to you Michael! And to your to lovely wifey Andru too…
The Winter ’09 issue of Fretboard Journal has a terrific interview between Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and guitarist Michael Chapman. For the past few years I’ve been producing a short documentary called Fully Qualified Survivor about Michael Chapman’s music and his life on Wrytree Farm with his wife Andru. Michael will be coming to the US to perform at the Jack Rose Memorial Concert in Philadelphia February 13th and playing some additional dates on the East Coast.
